About Li

My childhood dream was to become a psychologist. To the younger me, the thought of helping people become their fullest selves felt like work to be proud of. For me now, there is no greater work than helping others live meaningful, fulfilled lives, at peace with themselves and thus able to live in peace in their relationships and worlds.

When I entered graduate school for psychology in my early 20s, I quickly realized that I needed to do my own healing work before I could fully help others. I left school and began a lifelong personal healing journey that led me all over the world to meet some amazing, and a few not-so-great, teachers who helped me develop a depthful personal healing practice. My personal healing journey continues to this day.

In 2015, I landed on Maui and have made the island my home. I feel at home in Hawaiian culture with its people and their depth of connection to the 'āina (land) and incredible strength and resilience in the face of colonialization. I came with only a wish to help the community here, and I have served that wish in many capacities, including as a case worker for the economically challenged, a non-profit consultant, a cultural student and fundraiser for local cultural non-profits, and a Realtor® for local families.

When a brain injury and subsequent surgery, along with the pandemic in 2020, required that I fully take time off to focus on my healing, I realized it was time to return to my childhood dream. It was time to finally do the work of helping people directly, in their lives and in their relationships. I chose to go back to school to become a Marriage and Family Therapist because the non-pathologizing, systemic orientation of Marriage and Family Therapy aligned with my holistic orientation to people and to life.

I hold the therapeutic work that I do as sacred. I am often inspired by the courage of my clients as they choose vulnerability over safe, known patterns, and I am deeply honored to work with them towards their healing. When not working, I’m usually in the garden, walking the beach or forests of Upcountry Maui with my dog, Lulu, experimenting in the kitchen, or paddling canoe in the beautiful waters off Maui.

Meet Lulu

Lulu is my moodle (mutt, poodle). She is a trained therapy dog and often assists in client sessions. Her special gift is attunement. Lulu can recognize who needs emotional support and regulation and offers extra support where it is needed.
